Jimmy is the veteran detective whose missing collectible is his only hope to pay for his daughter's upcoming wedding, and Paul is his "partner-against-crime" whose preoccupation with his wife's alleged infidelity makes it hard for him to keep his eye on the ball.
I just have one word for this movie and that word is FUNNY. From the beginning to the end, this movie had me laughing hysterically. I had never really seen any of Tracy Morgan's work previously, only watching maybe one or two episodes of 30 Rock, but I am now a fan and I think he is one funny dude. The chemistry between him and Bruce Willis throughout the film is nothing short of hilarious. The very beginning starts off with an interrogation with a drug dealer who uses his cell phone store as a front to buy and sell drugs. Willis and Morgan argue behind the two way mirror on who gets to play good cop/bad cop with Morgan trying to prove that he can be a bad guy. He then busts into the interrogation room with his gun waving around, quoting movies like Scarface, Heat, The Color Purple, and even Star Wars (“These aren't the droids you're looking for” which had pretty much zero reference to what he was trying to get out of the dealer). The movie is full of crazy one liners and back and forths between Willis and Morgan and even between Morgan and Sean William Scott, when they apprehend him in a breaking and entering. Being an action fan and a huge fan of John McClaine, Bruce Willis again holds up do his Die Hard fame by being one bad ass cop in gun fights, chases, and of course getting himself into situations that only he could.
To put this film in perspective and summing it up, if you liked any of the Beverly Hills Cop movies, either Bad Boys, or either 48 Hours, then you'll love this one as well. I can honestly say that there are many similarities to all of those films all wrapped up in this film as well as of course some Die Hard moments and even a reference to McClaine's famous phrase, in which Bruce Willis says that he doesn't even know what movie that phrase is from. Add to that the editing and directing done by Kevin Smith, who in his own right has some crazy funny ideas and then add the 'seriousness' of the Mexican gang and drug lords that the two of them have to combat with and you got yourself a very funny and action filled movie. I thought overall that this was definitely one of the best comedies I've seen this year and would definitely say that if you're looking to laugh while at the same time see some action, then this is the movie to see. You won't be disappointed.
Check back here next week when I review one movie that I've been waiting to see since the first teaser poster last year, and that is Alice in Wonderland. Also I'll be checking out Brooklyn's Finest as well starring Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes, and Ethan Hawke.
