Each month, I’ll bring you an amazing show that you can pass your time with and enjoy to your heart’s desire! I will even go in-depth into everything you need to know to get started on your viewing adventures…this month? I’ll introduce the thrilling work of pseudo-fiction known as “Fringe”.
WUT IZ THE SHOW?!
February’s featured series, Fringe, is what could be considered to be a good mixture of a fast paced sci-fi mixed into a bowl of horror and thrills with a spoon named “Drama”. This show brings you into a highly classified branch of the FBI known as the “Fringe Division”, in which a hand-picked group of agents (Olivia Dunham, Peter & Walter Bishop, and Charlie Francis) are consistently brought in to investigate happenings beyond ordinary possibility dubbed “The Pattern”.
This show is a must see for those who can stomach a reasonable amount of disgusting visuals. Each episode brings a new, reasonably exciting phenomenon to your plate ranging from teleportation to pyromancy, all of which is explained and theorized by the group’s forgetful Walter Bishop. The story-line, though a bit lost (insert laughter), reasonably stays solid if not a bit jumpy. Especially when entering into season two…the transition was a brick wall promptly labeled “WTF?!”, that I gradually broke through, and pressed on from.
WUT PEEPLE R IN IT?!
- Primary Characters:
- Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Tory) – Agent Dunham essentially plays the role of the primary character in each story. She’s an agent for the FBI of whom happened into the Fringe Division after her partner (and former lover) died holding a huge secret she was burdened to deal with. You’ll find essentially every tense moment in the show involving her in one way or another…
- Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) – Peter Bishop is both Dr. Bishop’s son, as well as caretaker. With an IQ of 190, and a discomfort with the prospect of staying in one area for long…his character often provides the witty, sarcastic humor every nerd can associate with.
- Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble) – Dr. Bishop…well, the best way to describe him is as “The Mad Scientist”. Lacking the ability to tell the difference between when he’s thinking and thinking out loud, Walter provides the random, light-hearted humor in order to make the somewhat disgusting things that he does more or less comfortable and tolerable for the audience. Just so that you know, Dr. Bishop is by far my favorite!
- Secondary Characters:
- Agent Phillip Broyles (Lance Reddick) – Fringe Division’s lead agent.
- Nina Sharp (Blair Brown) – Massive Dynamic’s spokeswoman.
- Astrid Farmsworth (Jasika Nicole) – Assistant to Dunham, generally assisting Walter Bishop.
- Agent Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo) – Olivia’s “right hand man”, of whom can be considered her best friend in the show.
WUT IT ON?!
Fringe airs on the Fox network on Thursdays at the current timeslot of 9PM-10PM (ET), however at the time of this post is on break until March 31st. Those of you whom haven’t seen or watched this show should be thankful, as it provides you with PLENTY of time to go about catching up! The first season is 21 episodes long (including the “Unearthed” episode that wasn’t aired until after Season 2 had already begun), and the second season is currently at 15 episodes.
You can find a lot of the episodes available legally online at Hulu.com, but not all. Should you hold a real interest in this show, I’d recommend purchasing the DVD! It’s currently (relevant to the time this article was posted) on sale on Amazon.com for only $19.49!
WUT IT RAY-TED?!
As I mentioned earlier, this show has only brought me ONE problem: an inconsistent jump into the second season that made little sense, and without handing spoilers: don’t expect to pick up exactly where you left off on the first season. That cost the show half a star, but Fringe is a perfect watch otherwise! Thus:
