Editorials include anything that fits outside of news and reviews. Here we have a lot of weekly and monthly pieces from our staff!
Ugh, sometimes I really despise the Internet. Some of our regulars definitely noticed we were offline for about a day and a half. We, along with 1000's of other websites, were attacked by a code injection of all 3500 of our PHP files in the server. This injection caused the site to redirect you to another site that had a fake Mal-ware scan. We would like to apologize to everyone who may have thought we were doing it intentionally. And also Pat because of his article having to come down due to the site issues.
Now that the Halo: Reach beta is out to those ODST buyers, it's time we all sat down and take a look at what it's like, if its good, and why we should care for another Halo.
Roger Ebert is a man I highly respect. The person I am today is heavily influenced by media, and at its core, film. I remember watching Siskel & Ebert as a child and since then have read many of Ebert’s writings dealing with beliefs, themes, and the impression that films can have on a generation. I especially had a profound agreement with his assessment of 3D technology the years before the film Avatar was released. So it came as my surprise when I initially disagreed with his claim that games can never be art.
One of the most anticipated features of the Starcraft 2 beta has always been Battle.net 2.0. Battle.net looks like it will try to be one of the most innovative and creative gaming centers out there. In fact, currently, the only real comparison in my eyes is what Windows Live has tried to do, and I guess to a lesser extent Steam. Now, just like everything else in the beta, it is difficult to give a full overview since a lot of B.net is missing but I will talk about what I can.
One of the most famous races with in the Starcraft Universe, even for the non-Starcraft among us. No gamer who exists in the year 2010 will be unfamiliar with the term 'zerging' something. You know, when there is a massive amount of xxxx and it is attacking xxxx. This term is from our favorite aliens from afar, the Zerg, and their bizarrely attractive leader, Kerrigan, The Queen of Blades.
The Protoss, that name should strike fear into your heart, unless you play as them, then maybe it is excitement instead. I have been a Protoss player for about 12 years and they have always had a soft spot in my heart. The race from afar whose advanced technology combines with warrior ideals to mean that you, are going to die in lavish fashion. They continue this trend in Starcraft 2, where they really begin to epitomize what it means to be a badass.
When it comes to Starcraft 2, or any RTS, one thing that many people often look forward to is seeing how that game interprets what human technology will look like in the future. Well, we saw it once already in the original Starcraft and now it is time to see it again, let us see what Blizzard did to those crafty humans, the Terran.
Starcraft 2 is a game that has been in my dreams for many, many years, and I am happy to see it coming into fruition. I have been a Stacraft and Brood Wars player since the day that each game came out (respectively) and for anyone keeping track that is 12 years of obsession. Part 1 of this hands-on series will talk about the old, and the new.
March, oh dear sweet March! This month was just amazing for gaming, although there were not a lot of titles, the titles that did come out were huge. I am talking Game of the Year huge. If what we have seen so far this year is an indication of what the gaming industry will look like in 2010, I am very, very excited. God of War 3, Final Fantasy XIII, and Battlefield Bad Company 2, I will see you in the ring!
